چکیده

The empirical investigation of human gesture stands at the center of multiple research disciplines, and various gesture annotation schemes exist, with varying degrees of precision and annotation effort. We present a gesture annotation scheme for the specific purpose of automatically generating and animating character-specific hand/arm gestures, but with potential general value. We focus on how to capture temporal structure and locational information with relatively little annotation effort. The scheme is evaluated in terms of how accurately it captures the original gestures by re-creating those gestures on an animated character using the annotated data. This paper presents our scheme in detail and compares it to other approaches. Author

Exploring Annotation of Head Gesture Forms in Spontaneous Human Interaction

Face-to-face interaction is characterised by head gestures that vary greatly in form and function. We present on-going exploratory work in characterising the form of these gestures. In particular, we define a kinematic annotation scheme and compute various agreement measures among two trained annotators. Gesture type mismatches among annotators are compared against kinematic characteristics of ...

An annotation scheme for Persian based on Autonomous Phrases Theory and Universal Dependencies

A treebank is a corpus with linguistic annotations above the level of the parts of speech. During the first half of the present decade, three treebanks have been developed for Persian either originally or subsequently based on dependency grammar: Persian Treebank (PerTreeBank), Persian Syntactic Dependency Treebank, and Uppsala Persian Dependency Treebank (UPDT). The syntactic analysis of a sen...

Towards a Multimodal Dialogue Coding Scheme

In this paper a coding scheme for annotating speech acts in the context of multimodal design tasks is presented. The scheme is an extension of the dialogue act markup in several layers scheme (DAMSL). The proposed annotation scheme augments DAMSL in two different directions: Firstly, utterance constituting the basic level of structure that is accounted by DAMSL are grouped into contributions th...

A computational model of arm gestures in conversation

Currently no standardised gesture annotation systems are available. As a contribution towards solving this problem, CoGesT, a machine processable and human usable computational model for the annotation of a subset of conversational gestures is presented, its empirical and formal properties are detailed, and application areas are discussed. 1. A gesture representation strategy There is as yet no...

Regulating Dialogue with Gestures - Towards an Empirically Grounded Simulation with Conversational Agents

Although not very well investigated, a crucial aspect of gesture use in dialogues is to regulate the organisation of the interaction. People use gestures decisively, for example to indicate that they want someone to take the turn, to 'brush away' what someone else said, or to acknowledge others' contributions. We present first insights from a corpusbased investigation of how gestures are used t...
